A simple and scalable immersed boundary method for high-fidelity simulations of fixed and moving objects on a Cartesian mesh

A simple and scalable Immersed Boundary Method based on cubic spline reconstructions is presented for high-fidelity simulations of immersed objects in a turbulent flow Cartesian mesh. The novelty the proposed IBM lies its simplicity, accuracy, scalability ability to simulate both fixed moving objects. new thoroughly validated against 1D benchmark, with 2D around cylinder at Re=40 300 3D sphere Re=300 Re=3700. Convergence studies detailed error maps showing spatial distribution velocity L2-Norm compared spectral reference solution cylinders show robustness method. cost performance method are also multi-billion mesh node up 65,536 computational cores. potential handling multiple practical applications demonstrated control square bluff body wake by two rear pitching flaps.
